Little Italy District
Little Italy District
With views of the San Diego Bay, old-world restaurants, charming shops and parks, the downtown Little Italy District is a neighborhood in Downtown San Diego, California that was originally a predominately Italian fishing neighborhood which has a small town feel in an urban setting. Named after the Italian American immigrants who settled and made a living from the fishing industry, Little Italy thrives today to provide its residents and visitors with plenty of attractions. Amici Park, a favorite for locals, provides a perfect place for enjoying the always-lovely San Diego weather. It has since been gentrified and now Little Italy is a scenic neighborhood composed mostly of Italian restaurants, Italian retail shops, home design stores, art galleries, and residential units.
Little Italy is one of the more active downtown neighborhoods and has frequent festivals and events. The neighborhood has low crime rates when compared with other neighborhoods in Downtown San Diego[1] and is maintained by the Little Italy Neighborhood Association, which looks after trash collection, decorations, and special events.
Many residential opportunities, such as modern high-rise condominiums with views of the bay, mid-level contemporary row-homes, restored Victorian Era buildings, and lofts prove the diverse mixture of opportunity and comfort. A waterfront park makes this bay-side neighborhood even more desirable. It is no wonder Little Italy is chosen as the host to over a dozen festivals and artistic endeavors year-round.
